Update v4.1: host your own room, and a Headquarters that follows you into the arena
Build your own corner of BombSaland
Up to now you played in our rooms, with our rules. From today you can rent a room of your own and decide what happens in it.
Open the mode picker in the game with M and choose Host your own room. It costs ten euro a month, and it is free with a yearly Premium Membership. One room per player, and it runs on our servers around the clock - it keeps going while you are offline, so anyone walking in finds it alive instead of empty.
What you get to decide
- The mode. Public Room, Hardcore or Last Man Standing
- Who gets in. Public, or private with a password. A private room still shows up in the picker with a Private badge, so people can see it exists and come ask you for the password. The password itself never ends up in the URL
- The artwork. Upload your own card image, so your room is recognisable from across the grid instead of being one more name in a list
- Killstreaks. On, or off for scrims where everyone should start even
- Bots. They keep a quiet room busy, but they take up slots. Turn them off for a clan night where only your own people should be in the arena. Hardcore has no filler bots either way - it runs on zombie waves
- The arena. Normal, or open with no blocks. Those two are deliberately one switch: the power-ups in this game come out of the red blocks, so a room without blocks spawns everyone fully kitted with six bombs and two speed instead of leaving you to walk an empty arena with one bomb
- Firepower. Earned in game as usual, or let every player pick their own blast range up to eight at the start of each round
Close your room and the settings are kept, so renewing brings it back exactly as it was.
Your account, on top of the arena
The other half of this update is where everything else now lives. Press H and your Headquarters opens over the playfield. You do not leave your round for it.
- Your balance, your Mystery Orbs and what is still waiting to be claimed
- The coins you earned this month, as a bar chart of the last six months with a goal underneath. That chart is fed by a new coin logbook, so from now on every coin that lands on your balance is counted
- Your killstreak abilities with a counter next to each one: how often you actually fired the airstrike, the seeker bomb and the nuke
- Your career: kills, deaths, K/D, playtime and best streak
- Your challenges, right there on the overview. They used to sit behind a tab of their own, and that is exactly why finished ones kept going unclaimed
- Who is online, with a button to challenge any of them to a duel
- Your character with everything you are wearing, and your 1v1 rating with a Find game button under it
Chat, Crates, Trader and Shop sit beside it as tabs.
A shop button of its own
The shop also got its own button next to the arena, under Headquarters and Switch mode, with B as its shortcut. It opens the same window on the shop tab - one place where your balance and your inventory come from, because two places would drift apart sooner or later. It only shows for players with an account: a guest has neither.
The trader moved in
The Wandering Trader is now a tab in your Headquarters. Sell the items you dragged out of the arena, buy what other bombers sold him, and get back to your round. His price per item shifts with how much of it he already has, so the total at the bottom comes straight from the server rather than being the first price multiplied by your quantity.
The Bomber Market is closed for now. An order book needs two players who want the same item at the same moment, and there simply are not enough of us online yet for that to happen often - so orders went in and nothing came out. Everything goes through the trader until that changes. Nothing you owned was touched, the market link now takes you to the trader, and the order book comes back the day it can fill itself.
Duels
A 1v1 challenge now arrives as a notification with your stats on it instead of a line that scrolls past in the chat. You can challenge a specific player straight from the online list in your Headquarters, or join the open queue and watch where you stand - including a countdown for how long your challenge stays visible on other screens.
From level 50 you can duel for Mystery Orbs instead of coins, in a separate queue, with no house fee.
A new coat of paint
The Headquarters window used to look like the rest of the game chrome: purple-blue panels with a gold edge around every block. That works for a menu of five lines. It does not work for a dashboard with your balance, your career, your challenges, your gear and a shop on one screen - with a border around everything, everything fights for the same attention.
Now there is one quiet dark background, cards that separate themselves with a hairline, and gold reserved for what actually matters: amounts, the active tab and the button that starts something. Every block stayed exactly where it was. Only the paint changed.
Duel results read as rows instead of a spreadsheet, and the ELO you won sits in the same green as the word Won - it is the same message, and two colours for one result makes you look twice.
Fixes worth naming
- Mobile players lost part of the arena. In portrait the left column fell off the screen, in landscape the bottom row did. The game was sizing itself against the screen height the browser reports, which on a phone includes the address bar that slides over it. It now measures the part of the screen you can actually see
- The arena is also re-measured when the address bar slides away, when you rotate the phone, and when a room with a different map size loads - three moments that used to leave the old size in place
- Typing in the Headquarters chat did nothing if you were not an active player in a room: waiting in the duel queue, watching after you died, or still in front of the PLAY screen. Those messages were quietly dropped by the server. They now go out over the same route the in-game chat uses while spectating
- The Headquarters chat scrolls along with new messages instead of staying on the oldest line, and the input keeps focus so you can keep typing
- If you are not connected, the chat says so instead of swallowing your message
