The original Bomberman from Jippii is back — with a whole new set of features. Back in the day it was just one of the fun games you could play on any Jippii website. Since 1999, Jippii Bomberman became incredibly popular over the years. The Jippii web portal and mobile entertainment service shut down around 2010. Java was no longer supported in web browsers as a background service, which meant we could no longer play Jippii Bomberman.

Over the years, Michael Wittouck (in-game name: Costa) has been trying to bring the game back. First with Bomberworld as a first attempt, then with BombSaland (a Unity version), and now with Next.js, PixiJS, Node.js, and Socket.io. For the website we also build further on the back-end web service that Lukn.pro provided as a kickstart. It wasn't an easy task with all the technologies that have changed on the web, but now literally anything is possible.

We've given the game a fresh coat of paint with a ton of features: a profile page with detailed statistics, in-game skins, extra items, a shop, XP boosts, clans, killcams, and much more. We also added bots so new players can learn at their own pace against slightly less advanced AI.

This is only the beginning. We truly want to let the new generation experience the game with the same mechanics and the iconic dance/shake emote. If you're looking for a multiplayer game that's free and playable on both PC and mobile without downloading anything — that's BombSaland. We also give away free skins from time to time.

We owe a lot to the community. The veteran players — all 30+ now — clearly haven't lost their love for this classic Jippii Bomberman recreation.

We're currently working on exciting new game modes like 1v1 wagers, which should be really fun — especially considering that up to 8 players can spectate. We have full control over where this game goes next, but we don't want to make it pay-to-win. Instead, we want a game where you can claim both free and paid skins in our shop.

Whether you're a returning veteran who grew up placing bombs on Jippii or a completely new player discovering this for the first time — there's a spot for you on the arena.
